Steiner Sponsors the Wisconsin Historical Society Project Tractor

Steiner Tractor was honored to be asked to participate in the restoration of a 1937 Farmall F20 tractor.  This tractor will be restored by a group of volunteers in 3 days in front of the crowd at the 2009 Red Power RoundUp.  Then, the tractor will be auctioned off and the proceeds will go to benefit the Wisconsin Historical Society.  The volunteers will be posting pictures and updating the project status on the web.  Steiner Tractor Parts is listed as a sponsor for this project.  We cannot attend the event, but would love to see pictures and videos that are taken.  If you are attending the event, and are interested in volunteering, contact the guys at the Cowboard for more information.  This is a pretty exciting project and we are very proud to be a part of it.  We wish the restoration volunteers lots of success!

Save the Date for the 2009 Steiner Tractor Parts Customer Appreciation Day

Planning is underway for our 2009 Steiner Tractor Parts Customer Appreciation Day.  Please mark Saturday, June 20, 2009 on your calendar.  We hope to increase the number of tractors on display this year as well as add some activities.  If you have any advice or suggestions, please let us know.  Remember, we offer in store discounts to customers that bring their tractor to display on the day of the show.  We also are welcoming any Used Parts Swappers that would like to attend as   well as any crafters.  If you are interested or need more details, please email Elizabeth@steinertractor.com.  We will post more information on all of the activities we are planning as we progress.  Please check back for even more details.

National Farm Machinery Show

Steiner Tractor Parts will be in attendance at the National Farm Machinery Show in Louisville, KY February 11^th thru the 14^th.  Our booth will be in the same place as previous years, we are in booth number 741 through 744 in the West Hall.  We are now accepting orders for pickup at the show.  All orders must be placed in advance as Dan and Jr. are only bringing display parts and orders.  Orders are due by February 6^th.  If you are at the show, the guys would love to meet you!  Please stop by the booth and check out our newest products. 

 

Need Help with the restoration of an Allis Chalmers B?

Recently while browsing the Smokstak Forums, I ran across a very interesting link.  One of the other Stakkers, posted a link to a site made by Rod Thompson.  This site is devoted to restoration information on his Allis Chalmers B Model.  There is also a wealth of tractor painting information as well as some details on his Oliver 77 Industrial.  Rod has put together some mechanical drawings of the customized pieces he built to complete his restoration.  He has compiled some great detailed information on the oil filters available for these machines. Does Steiner Tractor Parts sell parts for Steiner Brand Tractors?

Battery for International Battery Box

Where can I get a 6-volt battery for the International Cub battery box IHS080 so the lid will fit?

Interstate carries a battery for a 56 & up Volkswagon that will fit this battery box and allow you to close the lid.  The Interstate number is MT-19L, it has clearance for the lid and measures 8-1/4" long by 6-5/8" wide and 7-3/8" tall.

Your Steiner Tractor Parts Purchase – What you need to know!

            The last time that we blogged about responsibilities and practices for receiving your shipment was in June of 2008.  We thought that now was a good time for a refresher.  For our complete recommendation, please read our previous blog about receiving habits in addition to this entry. 

All products shipped with UPS are fully insured and trackable! This is why UPS is our preferred shipping method.  When you receive your shipment, it is important to note any damage to the exterior of the box before signing the UPS delivery receipt.  Then, the next step is to check in the merchandise in the box.  Each item marked as shipped on the packing slip, should be found within the box or boxes received.  If you find a discrepancy, you must notify us immediately.  You should never wait to check in the merchandise until you want to put it on the tractor.  Depending on the status of your project, that could be months away and by then it is too late to file a tracer, or a claim with the carrier.

Mail parcels are often insured if their value is greater than $50.00.  If you find a discrepancy with a mail parcel it is even more imperative that you notify Steiner Tractor Parts immediately.  The paperwork and claim process with the postal service is much more cumbersome than with UPS. 

                LTL Truck Freight shipments must be signed for before the driver leaves the merchandise.  It is absolutely essential that the merchandise is checked for damage before signing the documentation that the driver provides.  When you sign a delivery receipt on an LTL shipment you are certifying that the goods were received in good order.  Unless you make some other notation on the paperwork about a damage, the likelihood of any claim being paid is slim to none.  For your own protection, it is best to unpack and examine this merchandise thoroughly before offering a signature.  LTL Freight includes more paperwork for the consumer.  Do not let the driver confuse you.  There is a Bill of Lading, this is essentially the shipping instructions. It contains notes about what Steiner Tractor employees say is included on the skid and how many pieces we sent from here.  Make sure that this matches what you received.  It also contains the tracking number and information about who is responsible for the bill (in 95% of cases, Steiner has paid the bill before it arrives at your door, if you are asked to pay, please call before writing the check).  There is also a Delivery Receipt.  This may be produced electronically.  This is where you will be asked to sign.  Please note that when you sign, you are confirming that you received the merchandise in good order.  This is a binding agreement between you and the freight company releasing their liability.  It is important not to sign this until you are confident that there is no damage.  You should also receive a copy of the Packing Slip so that you can check in your merchandise just as you would a UPS shipment.

Why doesn’t Steiner Tractor Parts sell paint for restoration projects?

            We get asked this several times a day, and we noticed many customers searching for this term using our new and improved tractor parts search feature.  I thought that this would be a good time to thoroughly answer this question. 

The primary reason we do not sell paint is due to storage and shipping concerns.  We have a very large warehouse and it is not heated beyond 52 degrees.  This is a perfect temperature for working in, but not for storing paint.  Also, it takes special licensing to store and ship paint as it is considered a hazardous material.  We do not want to dedicate any staff person to dealing with Haz-Mat licenses and protocol when that person could be helping our customers locate new parts for their antique tractor. 

The other major reason that we do not sell tractor paint is because of differences in opinion regarding paint codes.  It is very difficult to find excellent, definitive information on this hotly debated topic in tractor restoration discussions.  We previously published paint codes in our catalog, but removed them when we had complaints.  If we receive enough requests via our comments on this page, we can repost them for reference only, not as a definitive answer to the questions about paint codes to use. 

While we will not be adding paint to our product line any time soon, we can make some recommendations of places to purchase paint.  First of all, we recommend purchasing paint locally.  Your purchase can boost your local economy while saving you the expense of shipping a hazardous material.  As far as local sources, you could try any place that Dupont Brand paint is available, they make a quality paint that can be used on vintage tractors.  I would start my search for paint at a local dealer for my particular brand.  They oftentimes have access to paint codes and have the colors you will need right on hand.  For vintage tractors, John Deere dealers, AGCO dealers (Allis, Cockshutt, Minneapolis Moline, Massey Harris, Massey Ferguson, and Oliver), and CNH dealers (Case, International/Farmall, Ford) are still excellent resources for information and tractor related merchandise.  Other great sources for tractor paint include Sherwin Williams, NAPA stores and other places where automotive paint is sold.  PPG produces a superior quality automotive paint according to Dan Steiner.
